Q: What happens if a property owner uses deadly force, claiming to defend
      their property?

A: If a property owner (or someone else, such as a child or spouse) is being threatened by an intruder, it is possible the use of deadly force may be lawful. However, human life is highly valued by the laws and society in general. Using deadly force, intending to do severe bodily harm when a stranger is taking something from your garage, for example, is not appropriate or lawful. The circumstances must be extreme for the allowance of deadly force in most cases. (See Landlord vs. Owner for more detailed information in the Premises Liability section of this website.)
